Upcoming Campus Events for Project Managers

October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 2008 - UW Madison Project Management Symposium - This 5 session series includes an overview of the Project Management Framework and specific tools, templates, processes, and best practices to manage each phase of a project (Conceptualizating, Initiating, Planning/Scheduling, Executing/Controlling, and Closing.) There is no fee for this symposium, but registration is required. Attendance is limited to those on campus actively working (or soon to be working) on a campus project.

If you have attended one of the symposium's in the past or if you are an experienced campus project manager, you may register for the October 29, 2008 session that will focus on  UW Madison Project Management Advanced Topics - This advanced session will provide templates, tools, and techniques to help project managers with project closeouts. There is no fee for this session, but advanced registration is required. 

MS Project Training

  • MS Project 2003 (Beginners) -  This DoIT course is designed for individuals who will use Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 as a tool to assist them in managing projects. The topics in this introductory course cover the basic skills necessary to create and modify a project plan. This includes the creation of tasks, task relationships, identification of resources and resource allocation. This course is designed for a person who has a basic understanding of project management concepts and is responsible for creating and modifying project plans.
  • MS Project 2003 (Intermediate) - This DoIT course will build upon the knowledge you learned in MS Project 2003 Beginners course, and give you the opportunity to work with a project plan once it has entered the project implementation phase. In this course you will exchange project plan data with other applications such as Microsoft Excel, update project plans, create custom reports to analyze project status, and reuse project plan information.
  • Applying MS Project to Plan, Schedule, and Control Your Projects - The Executive Education course will help you learn how to: Create a project plan and project calendar; Create a work breakdown structure and set task relationships; Develop time-based estimates for resources; Develop a project schedule, then analyze and optimize it; Assign project resources and adjust for resource contentions; Finalize and review a project plan; Update a project plan with actual data; Set a baseline and track project performance; and Create reports for presentations to stakeholders.
